Old Point Loma,
CA Built in 1855, the stone Cape Cod structure was one of the first
eight lighthouses to appear on the West Coast. The dwelling has a
cylindrical brick tower. Restored in 1935, it became a tea room and later

built 462' above the water, this was the highest lighthouse in U.S.
history. Since it was obscured by low clouds, it was replaced in 1891 by a
shorter light, more easily seen by ships.
